hair cuts are FUN!

HEE. I got new hair!

Shall we look at pictures?

Umm. Yes. I think we shall.

The front. I see in this picture that I have a lot of fly-away's. I considered erasing them in Photoshop -- but then decided to be lazy. Why lie to you kids? As fabulous as this haircut is, the truth is, I have fly-away's.

Okay. Here is the story. My hair had been getting really long. And as much as I like long hair, it just didn't have much character. It just hung there. So, I went in yesterday to update my color and I said to my stylist, "I don't have pictures. But I'm thinking about a severe angle. Keep the length in front but have it much shorter in back." Her eyes lit up. And soon thereafter, we were collaborating on cut AND color. And here is the result:

Funky, huh?

The other side, of course.

And another front view for posterity's sake.

It is amazing how much I like my cut. I think DeDe did an awesome job. She loved doing it, too. She said she doesn't always get to do such dramatic cuts, but if someone is even half-willing, she goes full steam ahead. When we started, before the color, she asked me, "Is it okay that I cut some of it now since we don't want to waste color on hair that isn't going to be here?" I said, "sure" Then she took the took the scissors out and cut a good four or five inches off the back. As she did it, she smiled at me and said, "I love doing this" with a gleam in her eye.

And it was so much fun. Once I got over the awkwardness. You see. I just switched to DeDe. This was my first appointment with her after going to Kat for almost 3 years. And Kat has the station right next to DeDe.

For years, I've watched DeDe work with her clients. I've always thought she was funky and fun. But I has happy with Kat. Still, as much as I love Kat, she is more conservative. And when I decided that I wanted a major change, I decided that I'd wanted to switch to DeDe for it. Shit, I pay enough for my hair. I should be able to change stylists if I want. I didn't want to switch salons, either. Especially when I knew that DeDe was who I wanted working on my hair.

So, yesterday was my first appointment with her and I think the results are A++. Rockstar, in fact. Although, I have to admit, my hair didn't look so hot this morning after sleeping on it. Hopefully, come tomorrow, I'll figure out how to style it.

I can wear pig tails again, though. THAT is fun.

I especially liked how DeDe cut my hair. She used the razor. She cut a lot of it dry because she wanted to see how things would lay before she went further. And then, while styling, she worked like such a pro -- explaining along the way so, hopefully, I can replicate it.

If you can't tell, I'm pretty damn happy. It is amazing what a good hair cut can do. (I'm not even crying about the fact that I forked over a small fortune for everything.)

Oh yeah, I'm really happy with the color, too.

As for our weekend, I went to Yoga before my hair appointment and got my ass kicked. My back is so sore today. That's a good thing -- but also a warning that I shouldn't go so long between sessions.

For dinner on Saturday, James and I were invited to a friend's house. We ate lasagna, talked about movies, drank wine. I did okay with my Weight Watcher's points AND I had fun. Miracles do happen.

Today, wasn't as much fun. Since we finally got our computer back, I had three months of bank account balancing to do. Everything is pretty okay -- but I'd be lying if I didn't say that yesterday's hair appointment set me back financially.

Tonight James fixed a superb stuffed chicken breast (if you have this month's Cooking Light, you'll understand). I used all of my remaining flex points and I feel a bit tipsy from the wine. It is all in good fun. My taped copy of Queer Eye was just the icing on the cake. Good TV, yes.

Tomorrow, it is back to work. I also have a 6 mile training run to complete. According to my training schedule, it was supposed to be today, but the weather sucked ass. I'll run tomorrow night. Without rain. As hard core as I can be, I also have limits. Freezing rain is one of them.

Besides, I had a fun hair cut to enjoy today.

Priorities.

Currently reading:
The Secret Lives of Bees, Sue Monk Kidd
March book club pick. I'm only 20 pages in, but I like the narrator so far.

Just Finished:
Harry Potter and the Prison of Azkaban, J.K. Rowling
I'm still ahead for book club, so I thought I'd read this again. I really, really love this book.

Sushi for Beginners, Marion Keyes
What can I say? This is trash; simply junk food for the mind. However, I'm using the excuse that it is okay since I'm two books ahead for book club.

Middlesex, Jeffrey Eugenides
Simply fabulous. I wish it didn't have to end. And while I approached this as a gawker-type look at a hermaphrodite's life, I was surprised to find it a very touching and (almost) traditional epic.

Nickel and Dimed, Barbara Erenreich
I've been wanting to read this for a while especially after growing up with a mother who, for a short time, was part of the working poor. The book is an interesting study and only confirms my resolve to never again shop in another Walmart store.

Breakfast at Tiffanys, Truman Capote
I do really enjoy Capote's writing even though the girls in my book club were less than thrilled with this. Who knew it was so short, too?
