Hello Strangers
Friday, January 18, 2002
Well, let me just start this by saying I have a SEVERE case of the hiccups that came back when I was loading this page into my HTML editor.
Damn!
I thought I'd gotten rid of them two hours ago. It was a half an hour before a meeting and I was really stressing because these hiccups are the big, noisy painful kind. And I didn't want to be hiccuping all through the meeting. I started counting the hiccups and once I got to 40 of them (about 10 seconds apart -- I know, I'm a dork who counted and timed them), I realized that drinking water and deep breathing wasn't helping. So I did something desperate. This evil little part of me somehow reasoned that Oreos would help. OREOS!? So, damn, if I didn't get my butt up and purchase a little sack of the cookies from the vending machine -- all the while hiccuping and telling myself how pathetic I was.
And. Of course. It worked. Sure, enough. Somewhere after cookie number three. Which it really shouldn't have. I know the Oreos themselves didn't stop the things. But now I've had success. Built a correlation. And will probably become fat because of it.
And now. Six Oreos and two hours later, I have the hiccups again. I wasn't even drinking soda! Shit. They hurt, too. I don't know if I can even concentrate to write.
But I'll try.
Firstly, sorry for the absence. We're launching a new web site here at work. The go-live date is Feb. 1st so we've been working our asses off pouring content into the content management system and building pages. Some creative and image work has been in the queue as well.
So. Not much time to write. Or sleep for that matter.
(And, yes, my hiccups are still here)
Things have been going well. James is loving his job. We've been going out. I think I almost overspent my last paycheck with too many dinners out. Too many trips to Banana Republic. We're vowing not to let our past repeat itself. We're attempting to stay on our same budget as before. We're just calling this past month a little celebratory excursion. If you know what I mean.
I have been loving the gym. My eating has not been as pleasing. And my weight. Well. That needs work, too.
And I really could go into more. Like. For example, the episode of Oprah that I listened to yesterday while working on web site content. It featured really obese women and brought up some topics that I really want to talk about. I just don't have the time (nor the concentration right now) to commit the ideas to words.
So. This is all you're getting. For now. How about a little Friday Five instead?

1. What do you have your browser start page set to? At work: our intranet (it's burned into our browsers), At home: Google -- or Yahoo! -- I can't remember
2. What are your favorite news sites? Yahoo! through convenience, Salon through preference.
3. Favorite search engine? Google.
4. When did you first get online? December, 1995. I had just purchased my first Macintosh through our company's computer purchase program and a friend of mine told me to get AOL. So, I picked up a computer magazine with a disk in it and learned all about email and the web. I did the AOL thing for about six months (I think my logon was "Wuzul" -- heh!). Then I learned. Got my own ISP and began to build web pages. Of course, that's just turned the internet into a nasty habit 7 years, a laptop and a cable modem later.
5. How do you plan to spend your weekend? Tonight: cooking and a movie. Tomorrow: Step class and lots of cleaning of the apartment. Then dinner and the Janeane Garafolo concert in the evening. Sunday: no plans (maybe a Yoga class). And Monday (hey!), no plans again thanks to Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
