Lucky Me
What a nice Valentines day. Which is a bit ironic considering my husband and I usually don't celebrate the holiday. Honestly, I don't think we've celebrated a single Valentines day in prob. 3 years. Too much hype and I just never understood the whole "if you don't get flowers or candy on this ONE day of year, then he doesn't love you" thing. Honestly, I'd rather receive a gift or nice dinner from James "just because" than one "just because it's Valentine's day". You know what I mean?
But back to my day, I got really silly and made James all these homemade Valentines from glitter, construction paper and glue. He got me the new live Dave Matthews 2-CD set which is awesome. He also made me scrumptious French Toast w/Mimosas for breakfast. Yummm. We then cooked together for dinner, splurging on steaks w/a Merlot-Shallot sauce, roasted asparagus, a fresh french baguette, twice-baked potatoes and a to-die-for flourless chocolate cake w/a chocolate glaze. Oh, and did I mention the bottle of Special Reserve Black Opal Cabernet/Merlot Mix. Our favorite wine. It was just about enough to faint over -- too perfect.
We did have a good weekend as well. It seemed way too short -- but that's always the case when I have to work on Saturday. I got up early on Saturday to hit the gym where I ran for 3 miles and did 30 minutes of weight training. I then worked from 9am-2pm, went home to make James' Valentines and THEN I attempted to balance my checkbook. BIG MISTAKE. Let me start this by explaining how anal I am about my checkbook and I RELIGIOUSLY balance it every month on my computer. Well, this month I was off by $150!!!!! And I couldn't track down the error. I went over my statement 3 times, I called the bank and got all my recent deposits and withdrawals. I manually went over every transaction for the past 7 months and I COULDN'T FIND the error. Luckily, according the bank and my checkbook (on paper), I was ahead -- but for SOME REASON the computer was under. I'm pretty sure the mistake is from a couple months ago -- but SOMEHOW my checkbook always balanced. I spent about 2-1/2 hours working on this until my husband finally pulled me away. He said the bank is obviously right, my (on paper) checkbook is obviously right -- I just need to credit the account on the computer and get over it. But I've never NOT found a mistake. And I still have no clue where the error is. Ugh -- how frustrating!
That night we were supposed to go to Madison, but by the time I was dragged away from the computer it was too late and I was too riled up -- so we just stayed home, rented a movie and ordered a pizza. It was really nice actually. But still, just thinking about my checkbook is making me crazy!
